Is your glass half empty or half full?
Is your glass half empty or half full? This is a debate that makes me chuckle. We’re here trying to classify ourselves and each other as optimists or pessimists and is one better than the other? Really?
Someone I would know would, and they’re really missing the point…
Your Glass Is Refillable
The point is, the glass is refillable, so don’t worry if it’s half empty or half full. At any point in your life, you can drink some or fill it back up!
Sarah, a co-author from our new book Women Rising, pointed out to us in her Women Rising Live speech that it’s not about being half empty or half full, it’s about being thankful for the fact that you actually have a glass to fill up and drink from.
There have been times in my life when I felt like everything and everyone was against us and that’s where my attention was…I focused on the glass that was almost empty and someone else kept drinking from it.
Your Glass Is Filled With Blessings
When I realized how much attention I was giving to outside factors impacting me I decided to start being grateful to all the blessings in my life and the good things that were happening to us and for us. It was hard at first, but now I see so many things as blessings!
How did I do it? I made it purposeful!
If you look at the appointments on my calendar you’ll see at 10am, 2pm and 6pm an alarm goes off that says “Empowering, Gratitude, Present.” When it goes off, I take a moment to think about each of those words and the impact they have on my life.
Next time you think about your glass, be thankful you have one.
We have so many things to be grateful for in our lives, if we just take a moment to stop and think.
